As you may have seen in the news, the Trump Administration has rescinded its federal funding freeze memo less than two days after the directive caused widespread confusion and disruption across the country. The Trump Administration's unprecedented "federal funding freeze" was radical, lawless, destructive, inept, and an unconstitutional attempt to hijack the spending authority that rightfully belongs to the U.S. Congress.
Across Connecticut — and the country — patients temporarily were locked out of Medicaid, parents lost access to food-assistance benefits, children's access to Head Start was jeopardized. Essential nonprofits from Meals on Wheels to the Connecticut Foodshare were thrown into chaos, not knowing how much longer they'd be able to keep the lights on.
In response, Connecticut joined more than a dozen states and the District of Columbia in filing a lawsuit against the Trump Administration, challenging the clear overreach of executive power. Had this directive remained in place, it would have had severe consequences for essential services and programs affecting millions of Americans.
