Funding Approved for Berlin Police Department Renovations

October 6, 2023
Great news! The State Bond Commission approved $750,000 to fund the town-approved Berlin Police Department renovations during its meeting on Friday.

This is a significant funding award for our town’s biggest upcoming capital project. Since January, I have been advocating for this project, and Friday's approval reaches my long-time goal to get it done.

While on the Berlin Town Council, we unanimously voted to approve a three-phase renovation, which will expand police locker room areas, make booking and detention rooms safer, and improve the sally port among other things.

Public safety is a deeply bipartisan issue, and a priority for Berlin. This is a win for our bipartisan Berlin delegation and our town. Hopefully, it will help our police continue to do an excellent job keeping our families and neighborhoods safe.

Thank you to Governor Ned Lamont and his staff for making this funding a priority. When I was advocating for request in Hartford, the Governor’s Chief of Staff met with me and listened closely to why this project matters so much for our town.

Thank you to Speaker of House Matt Ritter, Majority Leader Jason Rojas, and Bonding Subcommittee Chair Ron Napoli for prioritizing this project as well. Each was very generous in making time for me in the spring, summer, and fall to meet with me to discuss the project. In turn, each advocated for it when it mattered most culminating with the approval of the funding.
