Protecting Seniors in Bristol

January 26, 2024

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Bristol Senior Center about the state's new prescription medicine discount program, ArrayRX.

It was great to join Comptroller Sean Scanlon, as well as my fellow Representatives Cara Pavlock-D'Amato and Joe Hoxha, to inform our community of great opportunities for relief provided by Connecticut.

Presentation on Nursing Home Liability Brought by CT's Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
On Wednesday, I had the privilege of attending an informative presentation with some of my fellow legislators from the Aging Committee. The presentation focused on nursing homes spending taxpayer dollars with little accountability, despite receiving billions of Medicare and Medicaid dollars per year. It was sponsored  by Connecticut's Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, specifically regarding nursing homes.

The presenter, Ernest Tosh, spoke about private equity firm's practice of buying nursing homes with the intention of using complicated procedures and structures to siphon funds. When the nursing homes face dangerous outcomes, these private equity firms use these structures to incur no liability.

This is dangerous not just for the residents of nursing homes, but also for Connecticut as a whole. Everyone should be able to enjoy nursing homes that aren't lowered in quality due to exploitation. Because of this, I am joining fellow legislators in attempts to increase the transparency and accountability for nursing homes through legislation.

This is an important issue that can't be ignored. I intend to make sure Connecticut is a safe state for all seniors.
