Dear Neighbor,

The Danbury Delegation – Sen. Julie Kushner, Reps. Raghib Allie-Brennan, Pat Callahan, Ken Gucker, Farley Santos, and I – held a very well attended town hall session at Western Connecticut State University. We were delighted so many constituents turned out to talk about issues the General Assembly will be dealing with this year. We will convene February 4th and adjourn May 6th for our ‘short session’ that concentrates on budget items, but considers much more.

We were asked about four important subjects:

  1. The federal government’s cuts to food, health care, health insurance, education, and other items; and the unconstitutional and cruel activities of ICE.
  2. The cost of electricity in Connecticut, and the consequences of the Dominion bailout of 2017 which required rate payers to pay millions of dollars (I was the only legislator who was in the House at the time and voted against it), of Covid, the attempts to shift the cost from rate payers to tax payers, and the actions we took last year to lower costs.
  3. Education, mostly about the increases of state money coming to Danbury for the Board of Education’s public schools, and requests to divert funding to schools not under the Board of Education.
  4. Animal Protection, particularly the practices of ‘Puppy Mills’ in our state.

The two-hour town hall went by quickly, with the welcome participation of the people in attendance. The experience was helpful, civil, and reflected the values we share.
Thank you to Western Connecticut State University for hosting us, and all who attended.

If you or someone you know requires assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-1902 or email me at Bob.Godfrey@cga.ct.gov.

Sincerely,

Bob Godfrey
