On Thursday, House Democrats voted to strengthen healthcare for Connecticut's seniors!
HB 6771, AN ACT REQUIRING HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR BIOMARKER TESTING, will increase access for vital biomarker testing. I went to WebMD and learned that biomarkers are traits that doctors measure in your blood, body fluids, and tissues. They can be signs of conditions, diseases, normal body functions, or when something goes wrong. Doctors can also use your biomarkers to see how well your body reacts to treatments for a disease you have.
Some common ones include your:
- Blood pressure
- X-ray results
- CAT scan results
- Pulse
But biomarkers can also be more complex measures in your body such as:
- Lab tests of your blood and tissue
- Molecules made by tumors in your body that are related to cancer
HB 6771 also:
- Enhances safety with improved background checks for all nursing home employees.
- Establishes a task force to address the specific needs of seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia.
This action reflects our ongoing efforts to support and care for our aging population - I was thrilled to cosponsor and vote in favor of this important legislation.
