Dear Neighbor,

The General Assembly’s short session unfolds, with all our committees hard at work. In spite of the Monday holiday, my schedule has been full.

On Tuesday, the regional delegation participated in the annual legislative breakfast of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. It is always eye-opening as we discuss issues facing Connecticut.

The Executive and Legislative Nomination Committee, of which I’m vice-chair, met on Tuesday and Thursday.  On Tuesday, we heard from and approved the appointees to the Judicial Review Council (which investigates and acts on allegations of judicial misconduct and disability) and the Port Authority (a quasi-public agency responsible for marketing and coordinating the state’s ports and maritime economy). On Thursday, we heard from nominees to the State Education Arbitration Panel (which deals with contract disputes), and the State Board of Education (including two student members who were outstanding).
I also had meetings with several nominees who will be heard soon.

On Wednesday and Friday, the Judiciary committee held public hearings on the reappointment of a supreme court justice, an appellate court judge, a large number of superior court judges, and state referees.

I was happy Thursday when a knock on my door came from Danbury’s Mayor Roberto Alves. Roberto has been an outstanding advocate for our city, visiting the Capitol frequently.

If you or someone you know requires assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-1902 or email me at Bob.Godfrey@cga.ct.gov.

Sincerely,

Bob Godfrey
