Food Assistance in the 64th District

As many Connecticut households begin to lose access to SNAP benefits in November, local food pantries across the 64th District are stepping up to help ensure no one goes hungry this season.

If you or someone you know needs food assistance, the following pantries are available to residents across our region – they will be working extra hard this year as the need ticks up, so consider making a donation to help our neighbors in need if you’re able:

If you need additional assistance or have any questions, the United Way of Connecticut has made it easier for residents to find help in their community.

Thank you to the United Way of Connecticut for leading this effort to make sure families can access the help they need—when they need it.

Together we can help ensure every household has access to healthy food and community support this winter.

Bridge Maintenance Project in Salisbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is planning bridge maintenance work in Salisbury as part of a statewide bridge coating program.

The project will include Route 112 over Salmon Creek (Bridge No. 01316) and involves cleaning and coating steel surfaces to prevent corrosion and extend the bridge’s lifespan.

Design work is expected to be completed by August 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027, pending funding and permits. The project will be funded entirely by the State of Connecticut.

Residents with questions or comments can contact Jacob A. Booth, Supervising Engineer, at (860) 594-2862 or Jacob.Booth@ct.gov. Please reference State Project No. 0174-0482.

Correction: DEEP Sustainable Materials Management Grant Awards

In addition to Salisbury and Cornwall (which we announced last week), Kent was also a recipient of DEEP’s Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Round 2 grant.

Kent received $408,000 to support its municipal solid waste, recycling, and organics/composting programs. The town’s award is part of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA)’s overall grant of more than $1.5 million.

Congratulations again to all awardees!

Managing Energy Costs this Winter

As part of Heating Assistance Awareness Month, Eversource and local partners are reminding residents that help is available to manage energy costs this winter.

If you or someone you know is struggling to keep up with heating bills, there are programs that can help:

  • Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP): Get up to $645 toward your heating bill. Apply at CT.gov/heatinghelp or through your local Community Action Agency at 211ct.org or by calling 2-1-1.
  • Energy Efficiency Programs: Save money and energy through Eversource’s rebates, incentives, and efficiency tips.
  • Winter Protection: Qualified households can prevent service shut-offs between November 1 and May 1.

Learn more at Eversource.com/billhelp.

Additionally, the Generation Power CT Energy Assistance program is now open for eligible Connecticut households.

Applications are open through Monday, November 10th. Click here to learn more and apply.
