Dear Neighbor,

Please see my video below in advance of this week's newsletter.

Have a great week,

Eleni

Millions Approved for Home Heating Assistance
Today we approved $17 million in additional cold weather heating assistance funds – Many residents and families who receive assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or Operation Fuel will have access to funds to ensure they can heat their homes through the cold weather season.
As your State Representative, it is my responsibility to stand up for my constituents. This funding ensures that none of our neighbors must choose between paying their bills or freezing. I am committed to enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents, and I will continue to do so throughout this legislative session.

Proudly Introducing my Student Mentee, Jemella Weir!
Today, I had the pleasure of introducing my student mentee, Jemella Weir, to the House. Jemella is a senior at Watkinson School and she is doing her senior project on affordable housing with a focus on environmental resilience.

She's traveled to see how other states and cities do this work and she is spending some time meeting experts and advocates to further her project. I can confidently say that with young, smart people like Jemella working hard toward their passions, our future is in good hands.

In the News: CT Insider
If we don’t continue the conversation about all types of housing many on both sides of the aisle agree we need, Connecticut’s economy cannot move forward.

Don’t let the headline fool you—a preliminary and productive conversation was had in Planning and Development last week and I look forward to and welcome our public hearing process in the coming weeks.

Black History Month: Inventions That Changed Culture
The Root has put together a wonderful collection of inventions by Black people that changed the culture. For example, in 1932, Richard Spikes (pictured above), received a patent for the gear shift. The automatic transmission followed. To learn more about the gear shift and many more inventions Black people invented, please click HERE.
