Dear Neighbor,
Happy Friday!

I want to start off by sending my heartfelt condolences to the Wethersfield Fire Department and the family of Firefighter Robert Sharkevich Sr., who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. People like Robert remind us that we can never take these heroes for granted. If you see a public servant today, please make sure to thank them.

With that in mind, I encourage you all to brush up on wildfire safety tips and be mindful of the potentially dangerous actions you take outdoors, especially with all of the dry sticks and foliage on the ground. Simple actions like disposing of cigarettes and keeping vehicles on dry grass can quickly escalate into something much more dangerous. The graphic below has more information on how to stay safe and prevent wildfires.

Early Voting in Fairfield

A reminder that now through Sunday, Nov. 3, Connecticut will offer early voting for the first time in a presidential election.

Early voting will be held at two locations. You may vote at either location:

  • Fairfield University Media Center (use the Barlow Rd. entrance and proceed to the first building on the left where there will be reserved parking)
  • Old Town Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room (611 Old Post Road)

The hours for early voting are 10am-6pmOct. 29 and Oct. 31 will have extended hours from 8am-8pm.

Voting is one of the fundamental rights and responsibilities we have as Americans, and because of the law we passed during session, we're making it even easier to vote.

You can read more about early voting at the Fairfield Registrars of Voters website.

It was a delight to join Governor Lamont, DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera, the Fairfield delegation, and more to celebrate the opening of the new DMV Express site in the AAA Northeast site at 1201 Kings Highway in Fairfield!

DMV Express offices offer:

  • Renewals of Driver Licenses and ID Cards.
  • Replacements of Driver Licenses, ID Cards and Learner Permits.

These services are available to anyone, not just AAA members!

This new site will provide residents with a flexible and easy way to deal with vehicle matters without the added stress and inconvenience of waiting hours in line. Make sure to check it out!

Clean Air Filters in Our Schools

On Tuesday, I was thrilled to see the State Bond Commission approve $11.5 million for the University of Connecticut’s Indoor Air Quality Initiative to rapidly get their more affordable Corsi-Rosenthal air filters directly into classrooms and enhance air quality for students and staff.

These filters are safer and more efficient, providing a win-win for the students, staff, and faculty of UConn.

Serving as co-chair of the Indoor Air Quality Working Group has shown me the importance of providing the highest level of air quality to all schools, and State Senator Julie Kushner and I are committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for every student across the state.

'Time To Own' Program Reopens
Great news for low and moderate-income homebuyers in Connecticut!

This week, the State Bond Commission approved $40 million in state funding that will be used to reopen the popular Time To Own program to a new round of applicants.

Time To Own has helped thousands of people buy their first homes since launching in 2022. The program provides forgivable loans for down payments and closing costs and has enabled individuals and families to achieve the dream of homeownership, fostering long-term financial stability and contributing to stronger communities.

To date, Time To Own has helped more than 4,800 homebuyers in 149 towns buy their first homes, more than half of whom are people of color. With the new funding allocation, Connecticut has invested $195 million in the program.

For more information on eligibility, additional considerations, and how to apply, visit chfa.org/TimeToOwn.
