Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday! I hope you and your family have stayed warm during this arctic blast. In this week's eblast, you can read about upcoming events, lowering energy costs and consumption, and more. You can click on the links below to navigate between sections.

      Severe Cold Weather Protocol

With brutally cold temperatures impacting Connecticut, the state’s severe cold weather protocol has been activated through noon on Monday, January 22, 2024. Shelters and warming centers are available. Anyone in need of shelter is strongly urged to call 2-1-1 to get connected to these resources.

      Pre-Session Legislative Town Hall

A reminder to please join me and the Fairfield delegation for a pre-session legislative town hall Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7pm in the Dogwood Room at Fairfield University (1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield). We will talk about the upcoming legislative session, what to expect, and what our legislative priorities are, as well as yours. This event is a great opportunity for you to share your priorities and what you would like us to focus on before the work at the Capitol begins Feb. 7. I hope to see you there!

Lowering Energy Costs and Operation Fuel Assistance

Did you know that you can shop for a lower electric rate from third-party vendors at https://energizect.com/ with no contract commitments or cancellation fees? It's true! Third-party rates are often lower than the standard service rate offered through United Illuminating.

For more information about the various programs available to reduce consumption in addition to lowering energy costs, you can click on the resources below:

And for those struggling to pay utility bills, Operation Fuel may be able to help.

Operation Fuel's energy assistance program opened this week for the Winter/Spring season. Applications will be accepted until March 1 unless available funds run out before that date.

Households with incomes that do not exceed 75% of the State Median Income Guidelines may qualify for assistance. These households include - but are not limited to - the elderly, disabled, working families, or individuals facing a financial crisis.

Eligible clients may apply for energy assistance (gas, electric, oil, or other deliverable fuel) ONCE per year and receive a grant of UP TO $500.

For utility assistance (electric & gas), clients must show they made at least four payments in the past 12 months, must owe a past due amount, and provide at least four weeks of income information.

Operation Fuel is accepting applications for water and energy bill assistance for:

Electric: Eversource, United Illuminating (UI), and Norwalk Public Utilities
Gas: Eversource, UI, Yankee Gas, Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG)
Water: CT Water and The Metropolitan District (MDC)

Operation Fuel has been assisting Connecticut residents for 46 years. In that time, Operation Fuel has distributed millions of dollars in assistance to help thousands of Connecticut households.
