A Message from Fairfield Public Schools's Superintendent Regarding Federal Immigration Changes
Below is a message from Michael J. Testani, Fairfield Public Schools's Superintendent:

"Dear FPS Families,

Our number one priority as a district has always been and continues to be the safety and security of our students. Considering recent federal administration changes regarding immigration status practices, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support and protect all children. Regardless of immigration status, it is critical that we maintain a safe inclusive school environment in which all students can learn and succeed without bias, fear, or discrimination.

Per the Connecticut Trust Act, it is important to understand that ICE cannot enter non-public areas of an organization without consent, or a valid judicial warrant signed by a federal judge. Judicial warrants are granted in the context of criminal investigations (e.g. urgent national security or public safety threat).

While ICE visiting a school is not something we have cause to anticipate at this time, out of an abundance of caution, school administration have been briefed with direction should the unlikely situation arise.

To further safeguard our buildings, the following building protocol remains in place:

  • All schools continue to institute closed campus protocol

  • All visitors are required to check in via the intercom. If permitted entry, they must check in with the front office

  • Unauthorized individuals will not be granted access

  • Students are not permitted to leave campus with anyone other than a parent or legal guardian, or with specific permission from a parent or legal guardian

Thank you for continuing to support our students and school community. Please reach out to your principal directly with any questions."

We are experiencing rapidly-changing times that are leaving communities unsure, anxious, and frightened. I am relieved to see our town's public school system committed to protecting our students, and as chair of our state's Education Committee, I will convey the same values and priorities across our state.

Join Me for a Legislative Coffee Hour!
I hope you'll join me and State Reps. Keitt and McCarthy Vahey on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 11am at Wake Up Coffee (71 Constant Comment Way, Fairfield) for a legislative coffee hour! We'll be discussing what's going on at the Capitol, our priorities this session, and what's on your mind!

These events are so important to the work we do for you in Hartford, and I hope to see you there!

Maternal Health Awareness Day
Yesterday was Maternal Health Awareness Day. Connecticut House Democrats stand strong in our commitment to improving maternal health for all, from prenatal care to postpartum support. We've passed critical legislation like the Pregnancy and Postpartum Support Act and expanded Medicaid coverage to ensure that every patient receives the care they deserve. But our work isn't doneā€”let's continue to fight for better outcomes and a healthier future for all Connecticut families.

Fairfield's Gold Certification Honor from SustainableCT
It was an honor to join Sustainable Fairfield in celebrating Fairfield's Gold Certification Honor from SustainableCT! I was proud to join the Fairfield delegation to prevent an official citation from Connecticut's General Assembly.

Fairfield is just one of five Connecticut municipalities to receive this distinct honor.

Fairfield met the high standards in a broad range of sustainability accomplishments to achieve this certification, including actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

I love living in a town that takes the threat of climate change so seriously and is willing to take action to combat it. It is just one part of what makes our community so special.
