I don't have to tell you how hot it is, but we can never be told enough how important it is to stay hydrated in these conditions. The state's extreme heat protocol went into effect on Tuesday and ends Friday night. Please take care of yourself and check on your friends, too!
This week's newsletter includes new legislation recently signed by the governor, including a bill that puts patients first and holds insurance companies accountable.

Connecticut’s extreme heat is no joke! Please stay safe and stay cool. Drink lots of water, avoid the sun when possible, and be sure to check on vulnerable neighbors. For a list of cooling center locations in West Haven, please click the button below.
I would like to thank @ourcommunityheroes for recognizing the West Haven Police Department, Officer Makeim Miller, and Officer Ian Williamson, who on June 22nd, 2024, saved two young children from a deliberate drowning.
After performing life-saving measures on both children, the suspect was apprehended. Both children survived!
Thank you for being our community heroes! Your work and dedication to the city and surrounding areas are much appreciated.
A huge shout out to @respectmyfamily on a successful R&B Soul food Festival in CT on Saturday!
They are comprised of an amazing team from West Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, and surrounding areas of CT who bring a lively event all around the country! Employing hundreds of people within the community and highlighting black-owned businesses!
New legislation, which I supported, has been signed into law by Governor Lamont, prioritizing patients and holding insurance companies accountable. Here’s a closer look at what the legislation does:
Caps excessive premium hikes. Allows the Connecticut Insurance Department to limit rate increases for insurers with a track record of increasing costs.
Enforces mental health parity with real consequences. Insurers must treat mental health like physical health, and those who don’t comply can face fines up to $625,000 and must publicly report how they’re doing.
Ends harmful “step therapy” delays. Patients with MS, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression will no longer be forced to try cheaper meds first while their condition worsens, and trial periods are also cut from 60 to 30 days.
New legislation was also signed recently, establishing a range of new incentives and protections for farm owners in the state.
The Office of Legislative Research, along with the Office of Fiscal Analysis, has compiled brief descriptions of the most significant, far-reaching, and publicly debated acts adopted by the General Assembly in its 2025 regular session.
Cheers to the City of West Haven Health Department, which this week launched Power in a Shower - a free mobile shower program bringing comfort, dignity, and a fresh start to those who need it the most. See the schedule/availability below.
