Lyman Hall Athletic Fields Gets Grant

February 8, 2016

The Governor’s office has placed the Wallingford Athletic Fields bonding request for Lyman Hall High School on the State Bond Commission agenda for Friday, January 29, according to Rep. Mary Mushinsky (D-Wallingford), who was notified by the Governor on Thursday.

The legislature had authorized the bond request of $250,000 in 2013, but Mushinsky said it was necessary to block several recent attempts to delete the bonds as the state budget tightened.

The State Bond Commission is the final step before the funds are approved for Wallingford. “As Lyman Hall and the Board of Education have worked hard to repair and improve the substandard athletic fields, it is very helpful that the state is also willing to contribute a portion of the cost. Everyone shares an interest in protecting our student athletes,” Mushinsky said.

Mushinsky thanked Governor Malloy for prioritizing this project and Rep. Mary Fritz for her willingness to allow the repurposing of an unused grant-in-aid so that legislators could redirect bond funds to Lyman Hall.

Mushinsky is a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.
