Can We End Racism? Enough Is Enough!

June 4, 2020

I was proud to march for justice in downtown Danbury Wednesday with uncounted people like the ones in the photo below:

In checking emails once I got home I came across a deep, heartfelt submission from a constituent who shared her feelings over the terrible and unnecessary death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and a need for police reform.

I wanted to share my response with all of you here:

I just got home from the protest in downtown Danbury. I'm even further energized by the people who attended, spoke, and participated.

In my long lifetime, I've seen the civil rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s, I've mourned the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bobby Kennedy, I've marched with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, I've supported legislation such as you've suggested, and I've lived to make the promise of the Pledge of Allegiance - 'with liberty and justice for all' - a reality.

Today, enough is enough. I'll be joining with my colleagues of the General Assembly to fashion new laws. But we all must work to end the culture of hate and racism that is wrecking our country.

Thank you for your message. Hearing from people like you makes me stronger.
