Safety Updates

July 10, 2020
As we prepare for Tropical Storm Fay to head up the coast, now is a good time to remind you of the steps you can take to prepare for Hurricane season. We are already setting records with the number of named storms this early in the season. Here are some of the things you can do today, to prepare for the Tropical Storm. You can find more information and specifics here and here.
  • Gather a Storm Kit with Supplies – including water, non-perishable food, First Aid Supplies, Flashlights and Batteries
  • Charge Your Devices
  • Move Vehicles Under Cover or to Higher Ground
  • Get Your Home Ready – Move items indoors
  • Clear Storm Drains Near your Home
Earlier today I had the opportunity to join Governor Lamont, Lt Governor Bysiewicz, Congressman Himes and fellow local leaders to congratulate The Workplace on the receipt of a $2million federal grant through the USDOL. This grant will provide apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing to 16-24 year olds and be an opportunity to leverage additional resources and opportunities.

Hosted by Bigelow Tea, one of the key partners in the endeavor, today’s event highlighted the importance of partnerships between local, state and federal government, higher education and business to build the skills and empower the young people of our state. These apprenticeships lead to well paying jobs. Many thanks to Cindi Bigelow, CEO of Bigelow Tea, right here in the 133rd District, for her ongoing leadership and innovation!

Phase 3 Reopening Delayed

In yesterday's email from me, there was an error in the Phase 2 and Phase 3 portions of the graphic. It labeled that during our current reopening state, Phase 2, outdoor gatherings are capped at 50 people. As of July 3rd, that number was upped to 100 people with a one time exception for graduations at 150 people.

Although Connecticut has done a great job containing the COVID virus, cases are spiking in other parts of the country that have loosened quarantine restrictions. As a precaution, Phase 3 for reopening the state has been delayed indefinitely. During this phase of reopening CT, outdoor gatherings will permit up to 250 people, but check

here for new information as the number updates with presumed COVID activity in the state.

The good news today is that for the second time during this pandemic there are no new deaths in our state. Let’s keep up our mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing to continue in the right direction.
Cable Service Survey

After experiencing service difficulties and hearing from constituents, RTM Moderator Karen Wackerman reached out to me as well as the First Selectwoman’s office to share her concerns. As a result, the town is conducting a survey about residents’ cable experience. Please share your thoughts here.
Census Reminder

It is vitally important that every person in Connecticut gets counted in the 2020 Census. Without a full count, we run the risk of losing funding for vital services, especially those our most vulnerable depend on. Click here to do your part to help our community and make sure you are counted.
