Resident Advisory Council Presents: Neighbor Night on Zoom
Join the East Hartford CONnects Resident Advisory Council and Be part of a conversation around community engagement and opportunities  in East Hartford   on August 5th at 4pm via Zoom. Theme for this meeting will cover; How to navigate opportunities during unemployment and the journey towards employment in times of COVID-19. School Uniforms

Back to School Resources
In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and temporary closing of Town Hall to the public, Social Services has changed the application process for Back-to-School Shoes and Coats for Kids this year. Copies of the application can be found the departments website @ www.easthartfordct.gov/social-services/pages/back-to-school-programs.
Applications should be downloaded, signed, completed in entirety & returned to the department with all necessary paperwork by August 5, 2020. Applications may also be obtained by contacting the department@ 860-291-7248 and requesting to have one mailed. Applications and information may be returned via email/fax/scan/USPS or green drop box in Town Hall Parking lot. Once the completed application is returned to the department, a staff member will contact you via phone to confirm accuracy. 
The Back to School Shoe Program provides qualifying parents with a one-time use Walmart gift card for the purchase of a new pair of well-fitting shoes for their children entering grades K-12 in the fall; while the Coats for Kids Program, funded by the East Hartford Rotary Club, provides new winter coats to East Hartford youths between the ages of 5-12 years.

EHPS, Office Of Family and Community Partnerships and the Town of East Hartford will be teaming up to offer the 5th annual Backpack giveaway on August 17th,18th,and 19th from 9-12pm at the YMCA o\located at 777 Main Street in East Hartford. Free Virtual Leadership Program for Teens:
Speaking of Leadership, a virtual program to enhance high school students’ leadership development and public speaking skills, launches again this August! Brought to you by Leadership Greater Hartford, this program builds skills that transcend high school and sets students apart in the college application and employment process. More than 100 high school students registered for Unit 1 of Speaking of Leadership when it first launched in May. Register for this free leadership training today!  Speaking of Leadership: Unit 2, The Art of Effective Public Speaking will focus on building the skills to support public speaking such as, building confidence, connecting with the audience, and leadership presence. This virtual program will also feature guest speakers to enrich the curriculum content and the first speaker is Tim Russell - an educator, voice teacher, actor and musician in New York City. He holds a master’s degree in Music for Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy (NYU Steinhardt). He also received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UConn -- but later left his aerospace job to pursue the arts in NYC!  The Course runs daily August 10 – August 14.  REGISTER HERE

Understanding Your Money / Financial Literacy:  
Registration is now open for CRT's 2020 Financial Literacy Institute.  This 14-week intensive course provides an in-depth and engaging way to educate yourself and your family about tough topics in your financial world. Participants explore many aspects of financial fitness, including budgeting and savings; establishing and/or rebuilding credit; investment planning; dealing with the financial stress of underemployment and unemployment; protecting yourself and your assets through insurance, and so much more.  Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings (from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM) from September 8th to December 8th, 2020.   TODAY, Friday, July 31, 2020, is the last day to complete online registration, you’ll find it HERE!
 
Get Ready to Vote this Fall:
Right now - use the VOTER LOOKUP TOOL from the Office of the Secretary of the State Denise Merrill to see if you’re registered to vote and find your polling location. Learn about absentee voting in CT to ensure you can vote safely during the August primary and the election this November.

·        8:30 am to 12:00 noon;
·        Gates will close at Noon;
·        Shorter wait time between 9:30 am and 11:30 am.

Important information:
·        One allocation of food per car per day to ensure that we have enough food for everyone.
·        Open to ALL – no ID needed nor income requirements.
 Free COVID-19 Testing at East Hartford Farmers' Market:
Starting July 31 First Choice Health Centers will be administering FREE COVID-19 testing at the East Hartford Farmers’ Market. The testing site will be located in the back parking lot of the East Hartford Public Library at 840 Main Street. The tests will be administered from 9 am to 12:30 pm through October 30th. Participants must wear face masks and follow social distancing measures.  Additionally, on July 31st, representatives form the United States Census Bureau will be at the Farmers' Market assisting residents with their Census forms and answering any Census-related questions. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Farmer's Market, offering Connecticut-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Please be advised, all farmers and customers are asked to wear a mask and follow social distancing measures.  Under Connecticut farm fresh regulations, the East Hartford Farmer’s Market is only allowed to sell Connecticut-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. This produce is often sold the same day it is harvested.  The East Hartford Farmers’ Market is affiliated with the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Farmer’s Market Coupon Program. Farmers are also authorized to accept their produce and vegetable vouchers.
