Information and Reminders following Tropical Storm Isaias

August 7, 2020

Farmington was among the many areas hit hard by Tropical Storm Isaias, with over 77% of Eversource customers (9,885) still without power as of 4 p.m. Friday.

I know it’s difficult to be stuck inside with no AC or fans, but crews are working as fast as possible to restore power back to our community. Be prepared, however, for it to take multiple days for power to be restored in every part of town.

Here is some information and a few reminders for dealing with the aftermath of this storm:

-Governor Lamont activated the state National Guard to assist utility companies in restoring power to Connecticut cities and towns. The Governor is also requesting an investigation by the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) into the response of Connecticut's utility companies to outages caused by Isaias.

-Please stay home unless you absolutely must drive. Many roads are blocked by fallen trees and downed power lines that present a danger.

-Please be safe when using generators. Keep them outdoors and as far away from the house as possible to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

-Here is a handy guide on how to make sure your food supply stays safe during the outage and what might need to go: https://www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-charts/food-safety-during-power-outage
