COVID-19 Uptick Info and Resources

October 20, 2020
At today’s press briefing, Governor Lamont shared the news that our state's case positivity rate continues to increase. As numbers rise, public health officials are reminding us that much of the transmission is happening in small, informal gatherings where we may have a false sense of safety. The Governor advised residents to stay close to home and limit non-essential travel.

And, as always, continue to engage what we now know are important public health practices. I know you are growing weary and nerves are frayed right now. Though sometimes we all lament the fact that we are the “Land of Steady Habits,” this is a time when that is more important than ever.

Safety Guidelines

The CDC offers a number of recommended safety guidelines that are proven to keep us safe. It is our job to practice these recommendations like:

  • Frequently washing our hands
  • Maintain social distance - 6 feet
  • Wear a mask over your mouth and nose
  • Cover your mouth with your arm if you sneeze or cough
  • Monitor your health as we head into colder weather
  • Don't go out if you are not feeling well
Drug TakeBack

Earlier this week, one of Fairfield’s own residents, Jennifer Kolakowski, CEO of Recovery Network of Programs (RNP), spoke about the estimated 10% increase in overdose deaths, saying “It’s an epidemic in the middle of a pandemic.”

Whether it is job loss, working from home, parenting during school shutdowns, lack of access to in person support services or the pandemic in general, many of us are under additional stress. Help is available for those who are seeking recovery or working to maintain it.
