REYES APPOINTED DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE

(HARTFORD, CT) – House Speaker-designate Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) has appointed Representative Geraldo Reyes (D-Waterbury) Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Speaker-designate Ritter said, “Geraldo's tireless commitment to his community and the state is proof that he will not stop until he gets any job done. I am confident that he will bring with him the experience needed to help guide Connecticut through these unprecedented times."

“I have enjoyed working with Speaker-designate Ritter in the past, at a different capacity, during my time as Assistant Majority Leader and Assistant Majority Whip," Rep. Reyes said. "I look forward to working with Matt as we navigate our new leadership roles this legislative session.”

When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, the Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives, recognizes all members wishing to speak to the chamber, puts all questions to vote and directs legislation to the proper committees.

Rep. Reyes will also serve on the Appropriations, Commerce, Environment, and Transportation committees.
