Remember Sandy Hook

December 14, 2020
Like other national tragedies and traumatic events, we all remember where we were eight years ago today when 20 first graders and 6 educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School were killed. Today, we remember each of these students and educators, as well as the first responders, local leaders, and Sandy Hook survivors whose lives changed forever that day. No words can convey the extent of our collective heartbreak, outrage and utter shock.
Today’s remembrance affirms the importance of promoting meaningful gun violence prevention measures and mental health infrastructure and supports.

Earlier today I was on a zoom with the National Conference of State Legislatures learning about how to help states move to the 988 system for suicide prevention. Each of us can honor the memories of the Sandy Hook victims by taking individual and collective steps to prevent a tragedy like this. Let me know what you are doing or what you would like to see the legislature do.
