Fairfield Lawmakers Statement on McKinley E.S. Defacing

January 14, 2021

Fairfield Lawmakers – State Representatives Jennifer Leeper (House District 132), Cristin McCarthy Vahey (House District 133) and Laura Devlin (House District 134) issued the following statement about the defacing that occurred at McKinley Elementary School:

"The recent defacing at McKinley Elementary School is both disgusting and deeply heartbreaking. It is painful to see these signs of hate here in our beloved community. It is also a stark reminder that there is still a lot more work to do right here at home than we might like to believe.

As your State Representatives, we denounce hate in any and all forms. Together, we must not only hold one other accountable, but actively support building a community that is safe for all of its members.

Racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, or any form of hate have no place here in Fairfield or our State- nor does intentionally divisive political rhetoric.

Together with our local leaders, we will continue to work to combat the forces that seek to divide us as a community. We ask that you join us in doing the same."
