Public Health Care Option Up for Public Hearing

I’ve heard from you and from many families and businesses throughout the 20th District about the difficulties to access affordable and dependable health care. As a member of the Insurance & Real Estate Committee, I wanted to alert you to an important hearing on Tuesday, February 9 on Senate Bill 842 – An Act Concerning Health Insurance and Health Care in Connecticut. Senate Bill 842 will bring down costs and create public options to expand access to high-quality, affordable health care for individuals, small businesses and nonprofits.

Visit the CT Campaign for Affordable Health Care to learn more about the bill and the full bill text is linked here. To testify via Zoom, individuals must register using the Online Testimony Registration form, or click the button below. Registration to testify closes today, February 8 at 3 p.m.

If you do not have internet access, you can provide testimony via telephone. To register to testify by phone, call the Phone Registrant Line at 860-240-0411 and leave you contact information. 

You can email written testimony to instestimony@cga.ct.gov as a Word document or PDF. Testimony should clearly state your name and the related bill number. 

In addition to SB 842, the following bills will be up for public hearing:

  • SB 89, An Act Concerning Travel Insurance and Suicide
  • SB 843, An Act Concerning the Regulation of Insurance in This State
  • HB 5013, An Act Concerning Mandated Health Insurance Benefit Review
  • HB 6389, An Act Concerning Explanations of Benefits

The hearing will be streamed on YouTube Live.

You can affect change by testifying at public hearings. Lawmakers use testimony to inform their decisions about whether a bill should move forward in the legislative process as well as how to strengthen a proposal.
