Rep. Farrar Issues Statement Concerning Governor's Budget Proposal

February 10, 2021

In response to Governor Ned Lamont's budget proposal for the biennium, State Representative Kate Farrar (D – West Hartford) issued the following statement:

"The governor's budget proposal signifies the start of the months-long process of developing our state's biennium budget. This budget will lay the groundwork for Connecticut's economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, which has ravaged our state and left families struggling just to put food on their tables. Meanwhile, Connecticut's top earners saw their wealth increase by 10 to 20%.

I commend the governor's commitment to holding the line on tax increases, but without reforming our state's current regressive tax structure, working and middle-class families will continue to shoulder this fiscal burden. It is time for the state's highest earners, who have the most wealth, to pay their fair share.

Earlier this month, I joined my colleagues in calling for a fair economic recovery. I intend to keep that promise and will work to ensure this budget invests in our state's education, health care, and municipalities with providing tax relief to working- and middle-class families. As a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, I look forward to working with the administration and legislative leaders to build a more resilient and robust economy for all."
