Roundtable Discussion on Legalizing Cannabis

February 24, 2021
Earlier today I joined Governor Lamont for a roundtable discussion regarding his proposal to legalize and regulate - responsibly and equitably - the adult use of cannabis in alignment with neighboring states.

I was glad to take part in the conversation and discuss what I feel are the three main and very logical components of the Governor's bill:

  1. Decriminalization
  2. Regulation
  3. Revenue Generation

As I discussed, animating each of these components of the bill is the concept of equity – from expunging prior convictions, to creating new and lower cost market entry opportunities, to the formation of an Equity Commission to help manage opportunities and the flow of revenue.

This roundtable was a great and timely introduction to the upcoming public hearing on the bill. On Friday at 10:00 am, the Judiciary committee will hold a public hearing and hear testimony on the Governor's bill, SB 888 ( AN ACT RESPONSIBLY AND EQUITABLY REGULATING ADULT-USE CANNABIS).  If you would like to offer insight on the bill, I encourage you to sign up to testify via Zoom or submit electronic testimony via email so that you can have your voice heard on these matters.

Below are the steps to submit testimony and how to watch the upcoming hearings. All testimony must be submitted by 3:00 pm the day before the hearing.

As always, if you have any thought or would like to discuss this issue further, please do not hesitate to contact me.
