3/1/21 Newsletter: Vaccine Registration, Women's (Her)story Month, & Cyber Security

March 1, 2021
March marks the beginning Women's (Her)story Month!

This is a time to recognize both all of the incredible women who have fought for our rights over the past 200 years, as well as all of the incredible women who make our communities a better place today.

Despite the inequalities of patriarchy which persist, particularly impacting women of color, this year has already been monumental for all women.

Thus far in 2021, young girls witnessed the inauguration of Kamala Harris, the United States' first female, first African-Ameircan, and first South East Asian- American Vice President of the United States.

Just last night, Cholé Zhao became the first Asian female to win best director at the Golden Globes, and the first woman to win the award in over 40 years for her film 'Nomadland'.

Furthermore, after the 2020 election, the Connecticut Legislature has more women serving than ever before. While this is an accomplishment to be celebrated, I want to encourage more women to engage in Connecticut politics so that our legislature reflects our communities. This increase in representation and recognition is vital.

As we celebrate women's history and the incredible women in our lives, let us continue to fight for equity 365 days a year.

Vaccine Update

Beginning today, CT residents of the ages 55+ can register to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Many of you in this category may have already tried to set up an appointment and may be experiencing some frustration. If you have not been able to get one within the next few weeks or at all, as supply improves over the next few weeks, so will the number of appointments.

To register for the vaccine please visit the VAMS Enrollment page, or call Connecticut’s Vaccine Appointment Assist Line at 877-918-2224. Remember when you are able to schedule in VAMS to make sure to increase the distance to a number higher than 10 miles when you are looking for an appointment location. I also highly recommend checking back frequently with CVS and registering for MyChart with UCONN.

A complete list of the various scheduling options located closest to you is available at ct.gov/covidvaccine.

The next group who will be eligible to register will be ages 45-54 and you can begin registering on March 22nd.
