Updated Masking Requirements

August 6, 2021

As this week was my summer break in the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire with my brothers and their families, this newsletter is an abbreviated one.   I’ll be back in full next week.

In the meantime, a selection of a few upcoming events this weekend:

  • Kent Sidewalk Sale Days, Thursday August 5 through Sunday August 8, 10am to 6pm: Catch more than just one good bargain (and live music) during Kent Sidewalk Sale Days held at locations in and around Main Street.
  • Rose Algrant Art Show at Cornwall Consolidated School, Friday August 6 through Sunday August 8: If you visit on Saturday, why not also stop by one of both of Cornwall’s excellent farm markets (Cornwall Co-op Market on the Village Green on Pine Street from 9am to 12:30pm; or the Original Cornwall Farm Market on the Wishhouse Lawn in West Cornwall from 10am to 1pm)
  • Litchfield County 4H Fair, Friday August 6 through Sunday August 8 at the Goshen Fairgrounds
  • Sharon events: On Saturday August 7 at 11am: Sharon’s Hotchkiss Library will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off its renovation.  (Note that, during the renovation, the library has moved to temporary quarters at the American Legion Hall.) The Sharon Arts & Crafts Fair will take place on the Green on Saturday. And the Sharon Ambulance pancake breakfast is back on Sunday morning, 7-10:30 am.

COVID Update

With the delta variant taking off around the U.S., the federal government updated its masking guidelines for fully vaccinated people last week. As of today, all five counties in Connecticut now labeled areas of "substantial" transmission.  The CDC now advises that all individuals who live in a place with "substantial" or "high" coronavirus transmission should wear their masks indoors. (The guidance for people who are unvaccinated remains the same: Always mask up indoors in public places.) Let's do our part and keep each other safe!

Getting vaccinated is the best form of defense against COVID-19. If you have not been vaccinated yet, there are still several locations throughout the state that will administer the shot for free. Click here to find a clinic near you.
