Rehabilitation Over Incarceration

March 10, 2016

I joined colleagues and CTJJA to unveil results of the Youth First Initiative’s Connecticut survey...the public prefers treatment and rehabilitation for youth offenders over incarceration...and broadly supports youth criminal justice reform and rehabilitation!

On the heels of recent bipartisan efforts to reform the youth justice system, the Supreme Court decision guaranteeing parole hearings for youth offenders, and the Department of Justice decision to ban solitary confinement of youth, a new poll shows adults in Connecticut overwhelmingly support shifting the youth justice system from incarceration and punishment to prevention and rehabilitation. A clear 79% majority favors this shift.
