Year in Review: 2021

December 27, 2021

I want to wish you and your family a happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

This year was full of many challenges for everyone in our community. I am proud of the legislation that my colleagues and I were able to pass in the 2021 session to advocate for change and support growth in our district. Together, we enacted legislation to helps jump-start our economy following the impacts of COVID-19, and invest in our towns, nonprofits, and working families. I took a strong stance on topics of contention, such as criminal justice, zoning decisions, and emergency powers - all with the best interest of my district in mind.

I am always proud to represent Connecticut's 2nd Assembly District and I look forward to the legislative work to come in 2022. Please see below for a collection of photos from my favorite moments of the past year.

January 6th - The first day of the 2021 Legislative Session, being sworn in for my second term representing Connecticut's 2nd Assembly District.
May 6th - The House of Representatives passed two of my proposed bills. The first to offer businesses a tool to pay for zero-emission vehicle infrastructure and resiliency measures. The second, to provide state benefits to veterans who were less-than-honorably discharged due solely to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
May 10th - I voted on a resolution – HJ 59 – to amend the Connecticut Constitution to allow in-person early voting. The resolution will appear as a constitutional question on the 2022 general election ballot so you, the voters – will also have a say in whether or not you want to allow early voting.
May 26th - I worked closely with the Public Health Committee and the state Department of Public Health to rectify a hairdressing licensing issue brought to my attention by a constituent. HB 6666 passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.
June 3rd - The House of Representatives passed legislation I co-sponsored to help address the opioid epidemic. HB 5597 An Act Concerning Opioids, creates a pilot program for the state’s first ‘peer navigator’ position, providing mental health care and services to those suffering from opioid use disorder while also collaborating with a medical professional to develop a treatment plan.
June 1st - The beginning of Pride Month. I joined Governor Lamont, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz and LGBTQ+ advocated for the ceremonial signing of the Parentage Act - an act to ensure every child has access to a legal parent relationship.
July 28th - I attended a bill signing ceremony for legislation I co-introduced and co-authored to restore state benefits to Connecticut service members who were denied an honorable discharge due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
