STAMFORD SET TO RECEIVE NEARLY $7M IN STATE BOND FUNDING FOR MULTIPLE PROJECTS

HARTFORD - Today, State Senator Pat Billie Miller (D-Darien/Stamford)State Representative Matt Blumenthal (147th District)State Representative Hubert Delany (144th)State Representative Dan Fox (148th)State Representative David Michel (146th) and State Representative Corey Paris (145th) praised the nearly $7 million approved by the State Bond Commission for various projects throughout Stamford.

The state bonding agenda included:

  • $2.5 million for the Stamford’s Housing Development Fund to create permanent and affordable homeownership opportunities.
  • $2 million for Stamford High School to upgrade its existing baseball field and softball fields as well as add two new fields for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. In addition, the funding will support ADA compliant pathways.
  • $1 million for Terry Conners Ice Rink renovations and improvements.
  • $950,000 for the Palace Theatre to replace the approximately 800 balcony seats which are the original seats from 1927. The funds will also be used to add accessible seating, install new carpeting, and install new aisle lighting.
  • $250,000 for Toquam Magnet Elementary School for the construction of a kindergarten playscape.
  • $70,000 for the Boys and Girls Club for security fencing around Yerwood Center.

"It’s been an honor to have worked with my colleagues to help secure the funding for these projects, all of which are critical to the livelihood of Stamford residents, both young and old," Sen. Miller said. "Homeownership is part of the American Dream. Unfortunately, today that dream is out of reach for so many families, especially for low-income families. These funds will open that door to a few families who will be able to say they own their homes. The upgrades, renovations and additions to so many resources available to our residents will keep them in top functioning condition for years to come. I can’t thank Governor Lamont and the Bond Commission enough for approving these funds."

“I'm proud to have worked alongside my Stamford colleagues to obtain this necessary funding for these vital community organizations," said Rep. Blumenthal. "These resources will allow them to make important investments that will improve the safety and capacity of their operations, and thereby increase their contributions to Stamford's quality of life. Thank you to Governor Lamont and the rest of the Stamford legislative delegation for recognizing the importance of these projects, and the teamwork that secured them for our City. "

“Thank you to Governor Lamont, Senator Miller, and to my fellow legislative colleagues for working together for us to secure these necessary funds for our city’s infrastructure," said Rep. Delany. "Our infrastructure products are well-known, well-proven ways, to reinforce the economic growth, stability, and the general well-being of our community. Stamford is the city that truly works when we have the foundation necessary to get the job done."

“This is great news for our city, especially for our students and young people," said Rep. Fox. "These funds will help modernize and improve several of the recreations areas used by families across Stamford. I want to thank the State Bond Commission and, in particular, Governor Lamont and Senator Miller for their dedicated efforts to ensuring money for these projects was included on the agenda.”

“Thank you to Governor Lamont and the State Bond Commission for making these meaningful investments in Stamford," said Rep. Michel. "I am pleased to see funding being allocated towards our youth. I am pleased to see funding addressing the critical need for affordable housing opportunities, with the hope it goes to shovel-ready projects. We are also investing in arts and culture with funds being used to upgrade the beautiful Stamford Palace Theatre.”

"This funding will be critical in enhancing recreational and enrichment opportunities for our youngest residents and families to grow and thrive," said Rep. Paris. "All these projects will add to our community's vibrancy and safety. I would like to express my gratitude to Governor Lamont and the entire State Bond Commission for supporting these initiatives and choosing to invest in our community."

“These state funds we are approving for Stamford will help ensure that infrastructure for several valued resources in the city remain modernized and in a good state of repair, and I am glad that we can partner with them on these projects,” said Governor Ned Lamont, who serves as chairman of the State Bond Commission.
