Legislative Spotlight
We passed several bills yesterday including HB 5269, which makes virtual government meetings a permanent feature. In response to the pandemic, our world went more digital than ever before, and we found that offering public meetings both in person and virtually increased flexibility and accessibility. Virtual meetings have helped so many residents more easily access their elected officials, stay informed about the issues that are important to them and their communities, and make sure that their views are heard. This has been a major modernization of government and there is no reason to return to a world where people had to take time off from work or get a babysitter in order to participate in their government.
As Vice Chair of the Human Services Committee, I am thrilled by the passage of HB 5231, An Act Concerning Data Collection to Prevent Malnutrition Among Senior Citizens. Senior citizens are among our most vulnerable residents and this legislation is critical in making sure they are provided with necessary nutritional resources. The bill requires the state's five area agencies on aging to distribute and collect nutritional risk assessment surveys and report their findings to the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
Additionally, we passed HB 5327 which helps to build out the in-state energy storage industry and encourage future investments, providing great value to Connecticut ratepayers. This bill sets more requirements for electric distribution companies that seek to build, own, or operate energy storage systems.
If you have any questions about this legislation, please reach out to me. We are approaching a very busy last few weeks of the short session and I hope to hear from you about the issues that are most important to you!

CGA Kickball Classic
On Monday, we kicked off the final stretch of the legislative session with the inaugural bipartisan kickball game for a cause at Dunkin Donuts Park, home of the Yard Goats. We raised $2,000 for Connecticut Foodshare and Tim Restall of the Yard Goats is matching those proceeds! With 42 percent of CT's children living in poverty, addressing food insecurity has never been a more urgent need.

Connecticut Foodshare has set up a donation link for this cause. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help feed our food insecure neighbors across the state. Link below:

Fairfield's Annual Earth Day Celebration
I hope you'll take part in Fairfield's week-long Earth Day celebration! The Sustainable Fairfield Task Force has put together a schedule of Earth Day events as well as Town projects to make our community more environmentally friendly and sustainable. The celebration begins on Friday, April 22nd, with a community clean-up at Jennings Beach and a free workshop on composting at the Pequot Library. Click here for more details.

Happy Passover & Happy Easter
To all who celebrate, I wish you a Happy Passover and a Happy Easter. I hope your holiday is filled with peace, family, and good health.
