CT Votes to Protect and Expand Access to Reproductive Healthcare

May 2, 2022

A draft majority opinion obtained by POLITICO shows the US Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade. For nearly 50 years, women have had a Constitutional right to an abortion - and self determination over their own bodies. If this draft opinion holds true, a woman’s right to choose would be fully in the hands of state legislatures.

As other states and the Supreme Court move to erode healthcare and human rights, Connecticut is not sitting back. Last week, I was proud to cast my vote in support of a first-of-its-kind abortion rights bill that expands the types of medical professionals who can provide abortion services in the state and shield residents from facing penalties under other states' anti-abortion laws. The bill would also protect women from other states who travel to Connecticut to receive abortions. Everyone should be able to decide if, when, or how they start or grow their families - full stop. Abortion is healthcare. Abortion is a right. As your state representative I will continue to ensure reproductive healthcare is accessible to ALL.
