Reproductive Freedom Defense Act Signed Into Law

May 16, 2022

The fight for reproductive justice continues. Earlier this week, I joined U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal at the State Capitol to call for the passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill to codify abortion protections into federal levelUnfortunately, the bill failed in the Senate on Wednesday by a 49-51 vote.

The Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade in June. It's now more important than ever to enact protections at the state level.

On Tuesday, Governor Lamont signed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act into law, which expands access to abortion and legally protects medical providers and patients traveling to Connecticut seeking abortion care. I am so proud of this legislative and thankful to to my fellow members of the Reproductive Rights Caucus and the advocates at Planned Parenthood, ACLU of Connecticut and Pro-Choice Connecticut. This would not have been possible without them.

At a dark time in our country, I am glad that Connecticut can be a light.

Gender-Affirming Health Care
While human rights and bodily autonomy are under attack across the country, Connecticut stands firm in keeping our state a safe place for ALL. The budget bill provides protections for out-of-state residents seeking gender affirming healthcare services and reproductive care, while also protecting providers in our state.
