East Hartford Farmers’ Market Returns July 8

June 21, 2022

The Town of East Hartford is excited to announce that the annual farmers’ market will begin Friday, July 8th.
Area farmers will be offering Connecticut-grown fresh fruits and vegetables every Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Raymond Memorial Library at 840 Main St. through October 28th.

“The farmers’ market is a valuable asset to our community and it is a great way to get locally-grown produce, while supporting Connecticut farms and agriculture,” said Mayor Michael P. Walsh.

Under Connecticut farm fresh regulations, the East Hartford Farmers’ Market is only allowed to sell Connecticut-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers’ market provides a benefit for both farmers and residents.  Participating farmers are able to sell their fresh fruits and vegetables while marketing their farm to members of the community; residents benefit from a variety of fresh produce at a reasonable price while supporting local agriculture.

Farmers at the East Hartford market are able to accept Women, Infants and Children (WIC) as well as Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers.  The East Hartford WIC program will be working with WIC clients to organize a series of drive-thru voucher pick-up events; WIC recipients will receive event details in the coming weeks.  WIC clients that are not able to participate in the drive-thru voucher pick-up dates can also contact the WIC department at 860-291-7190.

The Farmers’ Market is sponsored by East Hartford Health Department and East Hartford Public Library. Each week, a variety of organizations will be present at the market to offer health and educational services for residents of all ages, and the library will run outdoor programs on selected Fridays.
To view the weekly schedule of services and programs, visit the library’s events calendar or call the library at 860-290-4330.

Organizations interested in reserving booth space to promote services for area residents can also contact the library at 860-290-4338. Booth space may be available for community-based, non-profit, or government organizations that provide services aimed to improve the well-being and quality of life for residents.
