Dear Neighbor,

As the summer continues and we all begin to travel more, I want to highlight that this session, Connecticut lawmakers voted to extend our state's gas tax holiday through November 30, 2022. We suspended Connecticut's 25-cent-per-gallon tax on gasoline to provide some additional relief at the pump for Connecticut consumers.

In addition, we also extended free public bus service across the state through November 30. Consumers are being affected by historic inflation and surging gas prices, making everyday tasks like bringing the kids to school, driving to work, and picking up groceries more expensive. These measures take steps to relieve some of that financial burden weighing down consumers' wallets.

STATE & LOCAL RESOURCES
Did you know that the state budget we passed this year expands eligibility for the Pledge to Advance CT (PACT) free community college program to part-time students? The program is open to first-time college students who are enrolled full-time or part-time, and meet other eligibility requirements. The grant helps cover the gap between the federal and state grants students receive, and community college tuition and mandatory fees.  Eligible students are encouraged to apply before the priority consideration deadline of July 15th. After that date, applications will be accepted as long as funds remain available.

The Town of West Hartford has launched a Small Business and Nonprofit Recovery Grant Program to help local businesses that were negatively affected by the pandemic. The West Hartford Town Council voted to approve the allocation of $2 million of the town's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the program. West Hartford businesses and nonprofits with 50 or fewer full-time employees, that have been in operation in West Hartford since at least January 1, 2020 and that meet other eligibility requirements can apply for a one-time grant of up to $10,000.
