Marijuana Informational Hearing

March 30, 2016

New Haven State Representatives Juan Candelaria and Toni Walker will co-host an Informational Hearing at the Legislative Office Building to discuss the legalization of marijuana for recreational use next Tuesday, April 5, from 10:00am to 5:00pm in Room 2E.

The state made changes to existing law in 2012 creating a marijuana program to allow for medical usage and in 2011 decriminalized small amounts. However, legalization has not been approved.

Rep. Candelaria, who introduced legislation this session to legalize marijuana for recreational use said, “We should seriously be considering the decriminalization of this substance for recreational use and capitalize on the many financial benefits it would bring into the state coffers.”

Several lawmakers who favor the measure and panelists, including public safety experts, are expected to participate, including a guest speaker from Colorado, where marijuana for recreational use is legal.

The public is encouraged to attend to learn more about this issue and participate in this ongoing dialogue. Participants will be allowed three minutes and will be called in the order of signing.
