Dear Neighbor,

I hope you had a wonderful and rest-filled Labor Day Weekend.

September is one of those months that represents a lot of causes—Suicide Prevention, Hunger Awareness, Childhood Cancer, and World Alzheimer's.

This week I am highlighting both suicide prevention month and suicide prevention week. Sadly, death by suicide is something that touches all of us at one point be it in our own families, at our workplace, or in our schools. Resources are listed below if you or someone you know needs help.

Also included this week is a recap of the funding Canton is receiving for its police department communications console. Tomorrow, we will have a press conference in Canton to discuss the importance of this new technology.

Enjoy the other upcoming events happening below and have a great week!

Eleni

State Funding for Canton
In May, the State Bond Commission voted to award the Town of Canton a $550,000 state grant for the replacement of its communications console and to renovate the room in which the console is housed. Tomorrow, I will join the Lt. Governor and local leaders to announce this investment in the Canton Police Department and public safety.

The Town of Canton will hold a special town meeting on Wednesday, September 14 at 7PM at the Canton Public Library and Community Center, 40 Dyer Avenue, to vote on accepting the award. You can read more about the special town meeting here.

September is Suicide Prevention Month
September 4 through 10 is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Week, which aims to raise public awareness and support for suicide prevention efforts. We can all act to save lives and bring hope to those impacted by suicide. We can all be there to ask, support, and help keep someone connected and safe if they're having thoughts of suicide.

In July, the 988 National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline was launched, replacing the 10-digit 800 number to the former National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Simply dial 9-8-8 to call or text the lifeline to receive free and confidential support from trained mental health professionals 24/7. If you or someone you know needs help, our state has a wide network of resources and support. Click here to learn more.
