DANBURY DELEGATION CELEBRATES ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

HARTFORD – Great Plain School in Danbury was named as a 2022 National Blue-Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Great Plain was one of four schools in Connecticut to earn this distinction.

 

"I was happy when Education Commissioner Russell-Tucker accepted my invitation to visit Danbury High School. I'm grateful that she and Governor Lamont have seen the progress being made by Danbury's public schools. Thanks to Superintendent Kevin Walston and the teachers who made this possible," said Rep. Bob Godfrey (D – Danbury).

 

"The Danbury School District has made tremendous strides over the years, and I am thrilled that one of their own is being recognized on a national scale," said State Representative Kenneth Gucker (D - Danbury, New Fairfield, Ridgefield).  "Congratulations to all of the students and staff at Great Plain School. Your hard work made this achievement possible.

 

“As our state continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children,” said State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan (D – Bethel, Danbury, Newtown, Redding). “Great Plain School exemplifies the best of public education in Danbury, I am extremely proud of the teachers, and most of all our students, for earning this incredible national recognition.” 

 

"This distinction awarded to Great Plain School is very special and personal to me. Not only did I attend this elementary school growing up, but I have witnessed their amazing journey to becoming a top performing district," said State Representative Arconti (D – Danbury). "The diversity and commitment to every student in the community has earned the school recognition and accolades. I am proud to have represented them and congratulate the administrators, teachers, staff, students and families for their collective efforts and this national appreciation."

 

Great Plain School has been honored as a 'School of Distinction' for three consecutive years. They were honored as a Blue-Ribbon school due to their 'Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing'. Additionally, Danbury High School was selected among 40 high schools statewide to participate in the 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Challenge. Participating schools will pilot innovative strategies to help students and families complete the FAFSA and access resources to support college affordability. Through the Challenge, schools will receive microgrants to pursue strategies to build awareness around the FAFSA and support families in completing the application. This will be the third year of the program.
