Dear Neighbor,

This week, I had the great opportunity to attend the Purple Flag Raising in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the State Capitol.

Through my work as a Police Officer I have seen firsthand the fear that survivors experience, not only for their own safety, but for that of their children. We know that domestic violence is all about control, coercion, and isolation - it leaves many victims feeling helpless.

That's why it is so critical to have organizations like Safe Futures and all of CCADV's member organizations. These are the people who work every day to give survivors and their children hope, empowering them to make the decisions that work best for their families, ensuring they can live a life free from violence.

Thank you to everyone who stands to help combat any form of domestic violence.

Visit to the Coast Guard Academy

This week, I was proud to help host U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro and Joe Courtney, among other distinguished members, to tour the Coast Guard Academy and the future site of the Coast Guard Museum.

We had some great dialogue about the important missions of the U.S. Coast Guard and its academy - as well as about the importance of listening to the cadets and their needs. We also discussed the need to ensure funding to keep us producing some of the best military officers in the world.
