Rep. Delany Legislative Update 12/9

December 9, 2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have been been enjoying the holiday season during this wonderful time of year.

This past week has been very productive. My family and I have been busy attending our city’s yuletide festivities, and my colleagues and I have been busy doing the people’s work as we prepare our priorities for the upcoming legislative session.

I am happy to report to you that the fiscal health of our state government is resoundingly strong. In the next few months I plan to work with with my colleagues on crafting socially equitable solutions to use our growing resources in the fight against the rising cost of inflation.

Below you will find more detailed information on some of the organizations I have worked with, the actions I have taken within the community, and on the programs that I hope will be useful to you and you and your family.

HOLIDAY STAMFORD FUN

This past weekend Yani and I kicked off the holiday season by attending the annual Stamford Heights and Lights event!!

We watched Santa and his elves rappel into landmark square, a beautiful children’s choir performance, and the big tree lighting ceremony in Latham Park.

I would like to thank Santa and all of his helpers: Mayor Caroline Simmons, Reckson, Stamford Downtown and everyone who made this event so special.

STAMFORD HOSPITAL

This past week my fellow members of the Stamford Delegation and key legislators in our neighboring towns sat down with the Stamford Hospital to review their incredible work and their priorities ahead of the next legislative session.

Our healthcare professionals are on the frontlines of public safety, and I would like to  give a resounding thank you to the brave men and women at Stamford Hospital for everything they do.

IMPROVING THE FISCAL OUTLOOK FOR CONNECTICUT

I am pleased to report that responsible budgeting and major structural changes made to pension and teachers' retirements plans are putting Connecticut on much more solid fiscal ground and saving taxpayers billions in debt payments.

The Office of Policy and Management noted the teachers' retirement unfunded liability has been reduced by a billion dollars in the last year. Combined with other recent deposits, the state will save $9.4 billion over the next 25 years.

Millions of dollars that would have otherwise gone to debt payments can be freed up to continue investments in childcare, mental health, higher education, and workforce training, improving the quality of life for all residents.

While our fiscal outlook is good, we remain cautious, and remain disciplined in our budgeting.

I will continue working with my colleagues to help make sure we set realistic expectations for our revenue and spending policies to keep our state moving in the right direction.
