Dear Neighbor,

Following the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, I ask that as we move through the rest of the year, we remember the fight. The appearance of people to stand up should not only be on the day we honor and march to celebrate the dream and actions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

There are many days left in the year to keep standing up and letting your voice be heard - making appearances at City Council meetings, Board of Education meetings, Planning and Zoning, Housing meetings, the Hartford Capitol and Legislative Office Building - all the places where there is still policy and laws that can be changed in regards to inequality, inequities and injustice.

Have no fear to show up and speak up to change what's old to new.

United States Coast Guard Band Performance - "The Promise of Living"

Big thanks to Rear Admiral William G. Kelly Superintendent, U.S. Coast Guard Academy U.S., Director of the Coast Band Commander Adam Williamson and the Coast Guard Band for the experience and opportunity to join them on stage for a live performance of “The Promise of Living” where I was able to narrate Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait”. I had an amazing time and recommend attending a Coast Guard Band concert anytime possible.

Eastern CT Veterans Community Center Ribbon Cutting

I was so happy as a veteran and the Co-Chair of the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs to attend the Ribbon Cutting event at the Eastern CT Veterans Community Center in Willimantic. The turnout was amazing, and to see first-hand how they invest in educating and helping our veterans to understand available assistance and benefits was great.

Recovery for All Press Conference

It was great to see so many people come out and support Recovery For All, our plan to introduce an "Equity Agenda" to support all Connecticut residents. It is well past time that we take a look at the inequities in our state and start to hold the millionaires and billionaires responsible for more to benefit us all.

Join Waterford Rise (Residents for Inclusion & Social Equity) tomorrow, January 23 from 2PM-4PM at the Waterford Community Center Dining Room for a conversation, "Sharing Voices of Diversity." This is a celebration and show of support for Waterford's youth, featuring an immersive conversation with keynote speaker, Curtis Goodwin.
