Waterbury Lank Bank Making Major Progress

March 1, 2023

I applaud the great opportunities to revitalize long forgotten neighborhoods thanks to the Waterbury Land Bank Authority. The organization is a non-profit, made possible through legislation passed in 2019, designed to strengthen communities by taking distressed properties and returning them to productive use.

The city of Waterbury hosted a highly attended meeting this morning at the downtown Marriott to lay out the details of its partnership with the Waterbury Land Bank. I am very excited about this collaboration that will promote economic development, increase real property values, and improve the quality of life for Waterbury residents.

The plan moving forward is to re-invest, transform, and redevelop key properties that will bring in potential investors. Executive Director Nancy MacMillan has been instrumental in drumming up support to repurpose empty lots and buildings into new community assets.

Developing the Waterbury Land Bank has been 10 years in the making, but the fruits of the labor are just starting to take shape. I’m optimistic for the future of the 75th district.

In 2019, the Connecticut General Assembly passed a law creating the state’s first land bank authority.
