Dear Neighbor,
Monday evening, Representatives McCarthy Vahey, Keitt, Senator Hwang, and I were happy to host Marissa Gillett, the Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), and Bob Wall, the Chair of Sustainable Fairfield, for our forum on electric rates.
Marissa Gillett gave a comprehensive presentation on what PURA does and what its role is in regulating utilities. PURA is a quasi-judicial agency that operates much like a court-- they issue rulings based on dockets. Chairman Gillett emphasized numerous times how imperative it is for members of the public to bring forward evidence to PURA so that it can be considered as part of the case and evaluated in the decision as such.

This Thursday at 10:00 AM PURA is hearing Docket Number 23-08-08 on "Application of The United Illuminating Company to Amend Its Rate Schedule". You can watch this hearing here.

For the first time in a long while, the third-party rates are lower than the standard service rate offered through United Illuminating (UI).

Additionally, we heard from Bob Wall, Chair of the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force (SFTF), about the various programs available for people to reduce consumption in addition to lowering energy costs. Below are some resources that may be helpful to you:
