House Passes Early Voting

May 5, 2023

I strongly support the early voting bill that passed the House of Representatives on Thursday. Early voting will give more people flexibility to cast a ballot in Waterbury and the rest of the state. Expanding voting access is critical to ensuring the people of Connecticut are heard at the polls.

House Bill 5004 would allow:

  •  two weeks of early voting in cities and towns around the state beginning in 2024
  • eligible voters to cast their ballots in person ahead of Election Day for regular, special, and primary elections
  • more convenience and fairness in the process, reflecting the realities of hectic modern-day life.

Too many constituents are turned away from the polls because of an issue with registration or an individual polling location. Early voting will give residents more time to fix those problems and cast a vote. I’m for all opportunities to allow election processes to be easier and to engage more voters. Time is the new hot commodity!

Rep. Blumenthal is one of the co-sponsors of House Bill 5004

The move comes six months after Connecticut voters overwhelmingly backed the concept in a statewide referendum. I look forward to the next step, which is debate in the Senate.
