Dear Neighbor,

During Wednesday's legislative session, my colleagues and I passed H.J. 34, RESOLUTION CONCERNING CERTAIN WITCHCRAFT CONVICTIONS IN COLONIAL CONNECTICUT.

From 1647 to 1697, several individuals in Connecticut, primarily women, were hanged for suspicions of witchcraft. Similar to the Salem trials, the accusations against the victims were often unfounded and based in misogyny.  HJ Resolution 34 acknowledges the trauma caused by the witchcraft trials in the CT colonial courts and absolves those accused and convicted of "witchcraft" and "familiarities with the devil."

I am thrilled that it passed in the House with bipartisan support. This bill will provide much needed relief to the descendants of the victims.  I look forward to following this bill through the legislative process. Please click below to watch my testimony.
