Dear Neighbor,

Loss in the Community
I am saddened by the passing of a great spirited, big smiling young brother in our community.
My condolences to the family and friends of Cristian Medina. This week we gathered for a candle light Vigil in Cristian's memory. I pray comfort, strength, and peace to the family, along with those Cristian was blessed to connect with and touch. May we receive great memories, and good times we all were blessed to have with Cristian.

Budget Signing
This week, I had the great opportunity to attend the signing ceremony of Governor Ned Lamont signing our state budget. I am grateful to State Representative Toni Walker, State Senator Catherine Osten, House, and Senate Leadership and several other legislators, staff, and administration that worked tirelessly to present the budget package.

Financial Literacy Bill
In the month of March I had the opportunity to do a press conference with colleagues along with State Representative Corey Paris, State Senator Douglas McCrory, and NFL Player Jordan Reed in regards to financial literacy education for high school students.
The week the bill passed and will make half a credit of personal financial management and financial literacy a high school graduation requirement in Connecticut, starting with classes graduating in 2027. It consequently decreases the credits available from electives from three to 2.5.

New London Vietnam Era Veteran Award Ceremony
As House Chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, I was honored to take part in the City of New London, Connecticut Vietnam Era Veterans Award Ceremony with LT Gov Susan Bysiewicz and Mayor Michael Passero, where we were able to recognize Vietnam War Veterans for the sacrifice, courage, and dedication they never received. We would not be where we are today if it wasn't for the men and women of this Era that sacrificed and gave their lives for us today. Thank you for your service.

Women's Armed Services Integration Act Ceremony
I was fortunate to attend a great recognition ceremony on the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which was signed by President Truman in 1948. This law allows women to enroll, serve, and fully participate in the United States Armed Forces.
Today we honored Corporal Dorothy “Dottie” Dee as she received the Military Women’s Memorial “Living Legend” Award. To date, 98 women have received the prestigious “Living Legend” Award.
Corporal “Dottie” Dee is a true definition of “Living Legend.” At the age of 21 she was among one of the very first women to join the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in World War II. In 1943, Corporal Dee went to boot camp at Parris Island.
Thank you to Commissioner Welch and the DVA family and friends for coming out to the Gold Star Families Memorial Auditorium. It was an honor to watch Corporal Dottie Dee, who was surrounded by her beloved family and friends, receive the Military Women’s Memorial “Living Legend” Award.
