Dear Neighbor,

Happy Monday! This week we are celebrating the Fourth of July, a day to celebrate our great country, and also to reflect on how far we have to go to ensure our nation is a place where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. I hope you enjoy a beautiful, festive, and safe holiday with your family and friends. Below, please find information on an event with me and other legislators, an ebike incentive program, and more. You can use the links below to navigate between sections.

Beach Talk
On Saturday, July 8 at 8:30 am, I hope you’ll join myself and Reps. McCarthy Vahey and Keitt for an opportunity to chat about the issues on your mind and any questions you have or ideas for future policy. I look forward to our discussion!

Special Needs Hockey Program Fundraiser Ceremony
Here's a really great local story you may have heard about. James Murphy, a junior at Fairfield College Preparatory School, organized a three-on-three charity tournament, and donated all proceeds to the Southern Connecticut Special Hockey team. Sixteen teams participated, and over $13,000 was raised. The money will be used to buy helmets so that more developmentally disabled players can participate safely.

Last week, I was lucky enough to join the Fairfield delegation to honor James and his inspiring achievement. James spoke to his deep belief in living the principle of "service for our brothers and sisters" that is a core tenent at Prep. He is an example of how much good a single person can do, because his act of service will inspire others to act as well. That chain of events is a big part of what makes our community so special. I cannot emphasize enough the positive impact these funds will have. Well done, James!

Small Business Spotlight in Fairfield
I was so excited to see that Experience Fairfield is partnering with CT Biz Tour to highlight local brick & mortar businesses in our community through a special grant that the town of Fairfield received! We have some of the best small businesses in the state here in Fairfield, and I can't wait to see which businesses are featured, and to discover some new ones!

Supporting LGBTQIA+ Teen Mental Health
It’s time to talk about something important to LGBTQ+ kids and teens everywhere: mental health. Queer youth face unique mental health challenges every day that leave many feeling down and anxious. In fact, 81% of LGBTQ+ young people report wanting mental health care in the past year. Click here to examine some of the issues facing LGBTQ+ youth today, the ways resilience is built, and available resources to support mental well-being.

Fairfield Public Library Mascot
Fairfield Public Library is on the search for a new mascot! They have narrowed it down to their top three choices: a river otter, a cottontail rabbit, and a red fox - all three are amazing options! Visit the downtown Main Library or Woods Branch Library before August 12 and cast your vote for a library mascot. I can't wait to see which you choose!

Fairfield Beach Ranking
If you have a moment, check out this article of the 10 best U.S. towns to beat the crowds while lounging by the ocean this summer - Fairfield ranked #5! Fairfield has some of the most beautiful beaches in the region, and I highly encourage you to check them out this summer.
