Dear Neighbor,

Happy Monday! Below, please find information on a back-to-school toolkit, award-winning sustainability efforts at Mill Hill Elementary School, the final week to register for the MyCTSavings Plan, and more. You can use the links below to navigate between sections.

MyCTSavings Visit with the Comptroller
Last week, Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon visited the Fairfield delegation, the Fairfield Chamber, and economic development leaders to talk with local businesses about the MyCTSavings program.

MyCTSavings is a state-sponsored retirement savings program for businesses with five or more employees that do not offer a qualifying retirement plan. State law requires that businesses that do not offer a retirement option to either sign up for MyCTSavings or provide a qualified retirement plan to their employees by August 31, 2023.

The employees have a choice of seven different plans to choose from and over 20 years, the plan could save the state $6.5 billion dollars by reducing demand on state resources for aid. As stated above, the deadline to sign up is right around the corner on August 31 and over 5,000 businesses in CT have already signed up because it’s no cost to the business and the employees can start and stop the plans as needed.

It was great to highlight the plan to some amazing local businesses, and I encourage everyone to join this plan before the deadline!

Back to School Toolkit

I wanted to share with you a new resource just launched by Connecticut Children’s—their Back to School in 2023 Toolkit, featuring blog posts and articles created by Connecticut Children’s own pediatric experts. Please take a look at this information as your family begins back to school preparation.

A sample of the resources include:

Mill Hill Elementary School Green Ribbon Award
A very special shoutout to Mill Hill Elementary School, and especially their Green Team, who was awarded the US Department of Education's 2023 Green Ribbon School Award! This school has set an example for how to implement sustainability practices in and outside the classroom, and I'm so proud their hard work and dedication was recognized at the highest level. Congratulations!

School Mental Health Resources
Returning to school can be exciting and challenging for children and teens. During August, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will highlight resources on stress and anxiety, strategies for coping, and guidance about when to seek help from a health care provider.
These resources are designed to help parents, teachers, caregivers, and students navigate this stressful time and focus on overall mental well-being.

Fairfield National Little League
I wanted to give one more shoutout to our Fairfield National Little League 10U Allstars team. They won the District Championship, Sectional Championship, State Championship, and the New England Championship, making it all the way to the Eastern Regional Championship. The boys demonstrated a high level of skill, determination, and comradery, and should carry this memory with them for the rest of their lives. Congratulations (and thanks) to the coaches and the families, without all of your support these young athletes would never have had this life changing experience. Thanks for an exciting summer, and I can't wait to see you all on the field next year!

I'm committed to ensuring your voice is heard. Please don't hesitate to call my office at (860) 240-8585 or email me if there's anything I can do for you. Be sure to follow @LeeperForFairfield on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on everything I'm doing at the Capitol.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Leeper
State Representative
