Dear Neighbor,
Muddy Waters Cafe Fire
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers Muddy Waters Cafe. Unfortunately this week the restaurant suffered a fire and will be closed until further notice.
I was able to stop by to talk to and tour the restaurant with the owner - he shared the fire started prior to business hours, and no one was injured.
Thank you to our City of New London, Connecticut fire and police departments for their quick response time in helping put the fire out saving and protecting as much as possible.
David and staff are most grateful to all customers and continue to thank and appreciate all for your continued business and support that have helped them grow
Numerous people have talked about the great food and environment is, and shared great stories and look forward to Muddy Waters reopening as soon as possible.

The State Insurance Department will hold a public Monday for people to give input on proposed rate hikes for health plans in 2024. Insurance companies have asked for average rate hikes of 12.4% on individual health plans and 14.8% on small group plans, which have been criticized as unaffordable for many families.
Anyone wishing to testify virtually can sign up by sending their name and written remarks in an email to cid.RateFilings@ct.gov by 5 p.m. TODAY (8/18). People wanting to testify in person can sign up at the Legislative Office Building Monday beginning at 8:30AM.; oral remarks will be limited to three minutes per person.
The public can also submit written comments on the department’s website any time during the rate review process. (To submit comments, click the “select” button below each filing.)

A new "EQUITY MATCH GRANT" application period opened this week!
If you’re a women-owned business in CT, you could eligible for a grant of up to $10,000.

The CT State Library Division of Library Development has announced a partnership with the CT Democracy Centre's Connecticut's Kid Governor® program.
The Kid Governor® program provides an opportunity for 5th graders to experience civic engagement first hand by building campaigns for the state’s Kid Governorship.
Nominated students identify real community issues such as pet safety, anxiety, and friendship, and share their campaigns with #voters across the state. Through the Kid Governor® program, participating classroom learn about government, voting, elections, and civicparticipation.
The elected Kid Governor® then serves a one-year term working to fulfill their campaign platforms and encouraging students to make a difference in their own communities.
The project is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by Connecticut State Library.
