Welcoming Students Back To School at Chase Elementary
September 1, 2023Students across Waterbury Public Schools returned to the classroom on Monday for the start of a truly exciting year. Commissioner for the Connecticut State Department of Education, Charlene Russell-Tucker, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and I were thrilled to welcome children at Chase Elementary School.

The school has received funding for much-needed improvements, such as a mental health facility and improved air conditioning for the warmer months of the academic year. Both Commissioner Russell-Tucker and Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz were at Chase Elementary to highlight those upgrades.
Their visit comes as the Connecticut State Department of Education released data indicating that more students are attending school for the first time since the pandemic. The state also saw improvement in math and sciences scores, which highlights the importance of working together to re-engage all students in all subjects.
