Dear Neighbor,

I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend. I want to share a few updates with you about the UI Transmission Line proposal. Last Tuesday, the CT Siting Council had what was, at that time, scheduled to be its final evidentiary hearing on UI's proposed transmission line upgrade project. I want to thank all of the members of the community who have written directly to the Siting Council in opposition to UI's proposal. It seems that they have heard the very deep and real concerns from the community and heeded them.

A group of dedicated neighbors formed a 501(c)(3) organization called the Sasco Creek Neighbors Environmental Trust Inc. (SCNETI) and requested intervenor status in their own right. The Siting Council granted them that status. Similarly, the town of Fairfield requested intervenor status and an additional evidentiary hearing and the Siting Council granted both. Several local businesses along the train line, where this project is proposed, filed and were also granted intervenor status. While there is still a long road and uphill battle before us, these were critical steps in our work to make this project suitable for our community. I cannot thank everyone enough for their engagement and action on this important issue.

If you would like to join the neighbors in their efforts through SCNETI, you can reply to this email and I will put you directly in touch with them.

The next Evidentiary Hearing will be on Oct. 17th at 2:00pm. You can find details about the hearing and how to join via Zoom, here:
